Creating the Taste






"Taste of" to feature Rogers Park's Best



The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce have an idea to create tradition, promote local businesses and host a fun event. Working with World Business Chicago and SEED Chicago, the City of Chicago's curated Kickstarter page, the chamber has launched a crowd-sourced fundraiser to begin the Taste of Rogers Park series of events.

Starting smaller with only forty vendors, the first Taste of Rogers Park will host only twenty restaurants or food vendors, ten for-profit non-food vendors and ten not-for-profit organizations. The reasoning was explained as "showcasing only the best of Rogers Park."



"Being a 1.85 sq mi neighborhood with well over 400 local businesses, the population density and cultural diversity makes this a worthwhile project. It has the right chemistry to succeed. The timing couldn't be better" said Chamber President Bill Morton.



The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce plans to host the first Taste of Rogers Park at the Artists of the Wall area of Loyola Park with it's Southern boundary being the Windform art sculpture, located North of W. Pratt Boulevard and East of N. Sheridan Road. To include the entire neighborhood, future locations of the event will shift to other parks throughout Rogers Park, including Touhy Park, Willye B. White Park and Pottawatomie Park.

Rogers Park businesses have been calling for the Taste of Rogers Park. One business owner explained his frustration with other festivals in town as not featuring Rogers Park businesses. The Taste of Rogers Park will fulfill this need by accepting only Rogers Park food vendors. Additionally, everything from the promotions company, to printing of signage, banners, tickets, t-shirts, and posters to insuring the event will be by Rogers Park businesses whenever possible.

Sponsorship is three-tiered, Silver ($250), Gold ($500) and Platinum ($1000). Rewards include mentions in all press releases and logos on all flyers. Gold also includes banners and Platinum includes an introduction to all attendee's on the stage during the event. Sponsors and Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce members get $100 off table pricing. Additionally, there are Top Ten packages (for the first ten to pledge) and The One and Only package, which allows a vendor to be the only one of it's kind at the event ($3,000).

In addition, if the Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce successfully completes their goal of $10,000 by August 22nd, 2013, sponsor MillerCoors will donate an additional $5,000.

The Taste of Rogers Park will be a one day family event in August of 2014 which will begin at 8 am and end at 10 pm.

Taste of Rogers Park

"The Rogers Park Chamber of Commerce is very happy to announce that today we have launched a thirty day Kickstarter campaign for the first ever Taste of Rogers Park through World Business Chicago's program, SEED Chicago.


The Taste of Rogers Park will be hosted at Artists of the Wall area of Loyola Park with it's Southern boundary being the Windform art sculpture. Press Release For Artists of the Wall 2013 



Twenty years ago there was a wall along the lake, trash strewn about, graffiti littering the area, and people that were questionable harassing the passersby.

A small group of Rogers Park residents (Keith Lord, Katie Hogan, Regina Robinson, and Richard Kaufman) sat on Keith Lord's back porch and came up with a brilliant idea to change the face of this wall; An Artists of the Wall festival.

By cleaning up the area, painting the walls, and involving the police force in the painting, the negative personas that were in the area disappeared while the beautification of the area became apparent.

The event has, since then, turned into a celebration of Rogers Park and it’s culturally diverse residents. People from all over have come to paint at Rogers Park’s Artists of the Wall.

Businesses, churches, police, firefighters, lifeguards and people from age eighteen months to eighty years old have painted one of the 154 spaces on this 5,000 square foot (600 feet) wall over the past twenty years.

The Artists of the Wall festival is a one-of-a-kind, ever-changing art project, the largest of its kind along the lakefront and running for twenty years, something unprecedented in Chicago.

Artists of the Wall doesn't just promote both amateur and professional artists, it also promotes musicians by having an eclectic representation of Chicago-based bands. The bands and musicians that have played at Artists of the Wall have shared the stage with Windform, the first-of-its-kind art sculpture that was placed on city property.

“Twenty Years on the Wall” is our theme this Father's Day weekend. For years, this event has defined what Father's Day is to our Rogers Park dads. In the past, fathers have called, happiness evident in their voices, because they finally had the day with their children and wanted to paint one of the spaces.

This year is special for another reason, too. Last year, one of the artists, Terrence, died as a victim of gun violence in Chicago. His family contacted the Loyola Park Advisory Council and asked that his space be left intact this year so that they can add their story to his art. Terrence's death has saved the lives of six others because he was an organ donor.

Don't forget to be at Artists of the Wall, “20 on the Wall,” this Father's Day weekend Saturday, June 15 to promote the beautification of our neighborhood, and taking a stand against violence.

Bill Morton Promotions Welcomes Sinister Moustache

Sinister Moustache performs cinematic nightmarish orchestrations. Their music is progressive, mostly instrumental rock with a shape-shifting, film score style quality. Their latest album explores a variety of musical genres, from jazz, to ambiance, to metal, to surf, as it weaves a tale similar to a symphonic opus–but with contemporary rock instrumentation (guitar, keys, effects, drums, bass.) Their dynamic compositions swap between strange and atmospheric, dark and brutal, to absurd and cartoony–reflecting influences such as King Crimson, Faith No More, Frank Zappa, The Melvins, Herbie Hancock, Danny Elfman, Martin Denny, Raymond Scott, and Nintendo Music.

The Super-Sargasso sea is a theoretic place where lost things go–and supposedly the source of objects that fall in anomalous rain phenomena. Sinister Moustache chose this as their latest album title as a reference to the unusual combinations of styles and sounds that make up the work. However the album is not abstract or extremely avant-garde–it follows song structure and appeals to the common listener, but with such skill to make it a real treat for the discerning listener.

In 2005 I discovered Bill Morton with 4X Records. At that time I was doing music related promotions in the southeast and found Bill to be very helpful to my business. He actively helped me book and promote shows for the bands I represented.Over the years, Bill always kept in contact--he kept me up to date on his progress with 4X Records and I was able to follow along as his business developed by leaps and bounds.

In 2009 I opened a music club in Savannah, GA. I also began full-time management of the band Sinister Moustache. I looked to Bill for assistance in promoting this band. I knew that Sinister Moustache fit into Bill's criteria for selecting bands for promotional services: original style, extraordinary song crafting and skill.
